18th-19th Rotherham Metro A/B Graded Meet

The Rotherham A.B Graded Meet was held at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.
James Barker and Miranda Bower were the only swimmers to attain 'A' Grade times in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke respectively.
Winning gold in the 'B' Grade were Miranda Bower (50m Breaststroke) and Nicole Baxter (50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly). There were bronzes for James Barker (50m Butterfly and 50m Breaststroke) and Miranda Bower (100m Breaststroke).
30th Most Improved Swimmers for January are Jack Nevison and Georgia Talyforth.

23rd North West Region Masters Distance Meet 2014

Held at the Palatine Leisure Centre in Blackpool
Philip Croxall (45-59) wins 400m and 800m Freestyle events in his age group, but is only credited with 7th and 6th respectively once the age adjusted formula is used.
Bob Whittaker (40-44) finishes 3rd in 400m Freestyle and ranked 18th overall, and finishes 2nd in 800m Freestyle with an overall place of 8th.
Daniel Dawson (35-39) finishes 5th in the 400m Freestyle event which left him in 17th place overall.
28th Friendly League

Colne lose to Pioneer 69 by 51 points to 69 in our first Friendly League Fixture of the season. The gala took place at the Accrington Academy in what was a more closely contest then the scoreline suggested. At the end of the night the Colne swimmers had managed a total of 46 new personal bets between them, with 27 amongst the girls and 19 amongst the boys.

5th Richard Baxter is no longer the Team Manager, he tended his resignation which was accepted by the Committee. He will still play an active part in the running of the Club.
10th Friendly League

Colne lose to Clitheroe by 57 points to 61 in our latest Friendly League Fixture. The gala took place at the Ribblesdale pool in Clitheroe. Despite the narrow defeat there are a further 15 new personal bests amongst the girls and 7 amongst the boys.
20th Friendly League

Colne lose at home to a strong Ramsbottom team by 47 points to 69. Despite the loss there were 20 new personal bests amongst the girls and 11 for the boys.
24th Friendly League

Colne travelled to Padiham to take on Burnley Aquatics, who were last seasons champions. In closer contest than many expected, the young Colne swimmers took the fight to Burnley, but it ended in disappointment as Colne lost to Burnley by 57 points to 63. Yet between the Colne swimmers there were a further 28 new personal bests, 16 for the girls and 12 for the boys.
29th Micro League

We played hosts to teams from Carnforth ‘B’, Backpool ‘B’ and Burnley Aquatics in our home fixture of the Micro League of the North West.
Colne stormed into the lead after a few races, but then lost their way as they reached 20 points after a quarter of the way. Blackpool had amassed 34 points with Burnley on 30 and Carnforth just behind on 28. By the half-way stage Colne had hauled themselves back into contention with 56 points which included 4 consecutive races wins. Blackpool had stretched their lead to 68 with Burnley on 55 and Carnforth on 50 points. Going into the final quarter of the gala, Blackpool had extended their lead to 100 points with Colne in second on 87 with Burnley on 81 and Carnforth on 78. In the final quarter of the gala is was predominately relays, of which, Blackpool did better than the other teams, as they finished the gala on 139 points. It was much closer for 2nd as Colne held on with 107 points to Carnforth’s 106 with Burnley finishing in 4th on 99 points.
The gala was held in a noisy atmosphere which pulled the best out of the young swimmers, with the Colne Girls setting 10 new personal bests and the Boys matching them with 10 of their own.

5th Bolton Metro Easter Sprint Meet

8 young Colne swimmers took part in the Bolton Metro Swimming Squads Easter Sprint Meet. There was only one winner from Colne and several top five finishes.
Miranda Bower (14) was 1st in 50m Backstroke and 5th in 50m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle.
Nicole Baxter (14) finished 4th in 100m Butterfly and 50m Butterfly.
James Barker (14) finished 4th in 50m Breaststroke.
Also swimming were Isabel Redfearn (9), Mia Dodman (9), Danielle Baxter (11), Caitlin Noon (11) and Molly O'Toole (13) who managed 10 top 10 swims between them.
12th Lancashire County WPSA Masters Sprint Meet

On Saturday, 12th April, Philip Croxall (45-49) was the sole representative of the Club taking part in the meet held at the Palatine Leisure Centre.

Philip finished 1st in 100m Breaststroke, 200m Breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley and was second in the 200m Freestyle.
24th Stanley Hendley 1923-2014

Stanley Hendley passed away at the age of 90. He had been a member of Colne ASC for over 80 years since he joined the Club at the age of 10. He had played a pivotal role for the Club after the Second World War when he joined the Committee, and from there he had been Secretary, Treasurer, Chairman and finally President. He also ran the Adult Learners class for a long time.
He stepped down from any active involvement of the Club over ten years ago and had been an Honorary Member ever since, occasionally turning up on Club nights when we had a league fixture.
27th Micro League

The young Colne team travelled to Fleetwood to take on teams from Burnley, Garstang and Kirkham.
The hosts Garstang along with Kirkham were too strong for Colne and Burnley. The winners of the contest were Kirkham who won with 151 points, just two points ahead of Garstang on 149 points. The Colne swimmers fought valiantly despite missing some key swimmers to come home in 3rd place with 93 points. Burnley Aquatics finished 4th on 71 points.

10th Carlisle Aquatics Masters Swim Meet

Philip Croxall swimming in the 45 to 49 years age group finished 1st in the 100m Breaststroke, 50m Butterfly and 100m Butterfly, 2nd in the 100m Individual Medley, 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke, and 3rd in the 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke.
11th Micro League

The young Colne team travelled to the Palatine Leisure Centre, Blackpool for our latest fixture in the Micro League of the North West. We were up against Preston B, Leyland B and the hosts Blackpool B.
We struggled from the outset against the three of the stronger teams in the division. In the end we trailed home in fourth place with 72 points. Meanwhile Preston B and Leyland B were trading wins as they finished in first and second respectively. Preston on 159 points and Leyland on 146 points. The hosts Blackpool B finishing in third place with 96 points.
The Colne swimmers managed a further 6 new personal bests for the girls and only one personal best amongst the boys.
15th Friendly League

We were hosts to Burnley Aquatics for our latest fixture of the Friendly League Season.
Burnley had brought a strong team, which meant they had a large lead after the backstroke and butterfly events. We closed the gap for the breaststroke and freestyle events, but it was in vain as Burnley won by 66 points to 52.
The Colne swimmers had put in a valiant effort and improved their personal best times with 29 amongst the girls and 25 amongst the boys.

12th Friendly League

We were hosts to Pioneer 79 for out latest fixture of the Friendly League Season.
In closely contested contest both teams pushed each other as they traded wins but it was the visitors that prevailed. Pioneer won by 59 points to 57.
The Colne swimmers put in a huge effort and as a result there were 40 new personal bests, with 21 amongst the girls and 19 amongst the boys.
13th British Gas Masters and Senior Age Group Championships 2014. Day One.

Karen Driver (40-44) finishes 2nd in the 1500m Freestyle in a time of 19 minutes 46.07 seconds.

Philip Croxall (45-49) finishes 8th in the 200m Individual Medley in a time of 2 minutes 42.76 seconds.
14th British Gas Masters and Senior Age Group Championships 2014. Day Two.

Philip Croxall (45-49) finishes 2nd in 200m Breaststroke in a time of 3 minutes 0.14 seconds and is 5th in 400m Freestyle in a time of 4 minutes 59.40 seconds.

Karen Driver (40-44) finishes 5th in 400m Freestyle in a time of 5 minutes 10.46 seconds.
15th British Gas Masters and Senior Age Group Championships 2014. Day Three.

Karen Driver was part of a quartet of women swimming for the Sub 160 Masters that breaks the British Record in winning the 160+ 4x200m Freestyle Relay in a time of 9 minutes 48.83 seconds, knocking 16.09 seconds off the old record. She was joined by Nicola Latty from Oundle, Jessica Wooddisse from Stroud Masters and Sandra Jones from Gloucester Masters.

Individually Karen Driver (40-44) finishes 1st in the 800m Freestyle in a time of 10 minutes 23.39 seconds.

Philip Croxall (45-49) finishes 4th in the 100m Breaststroke in a time of 1 minute 23.64 seconds.
26th Most Improved Swimmers for January are Alex Dickinson and Amelia Dugdale.
29th Micro League

Colne ASC travelled to the Leyland Leisure Centre for our last fixture in this seasons Micro League of the North West. We were up against the two top teams in Leyland B and Garstang A as well as Carnforth B.

With the Division C table not lying, Leyland and Garstang proved too strong for the Colne and Carnforth teams, as they finished on 152 and 136 points respectively. Colne finished in 3rd place on 92 points and Carnforth were 4th on 84 points.

There were not as many personal bests from the Colne swimmers this time, as only Caitlin Noon and Scarlett Metcalfe for the girls and Jac Smith-Shelley for the boys recording new personal bests.
30th The Most Improved Swimmers for June (Alex and Amelia) were presented with their trophies.

6th North West Region Masters Championships at the Palatine Leisure Centre, Blackpool.

Philip Croxall (45-49) finished 1st in 400m Freestyle and was 9th overall, he also finished 2nd (11th overall) in 100m Breaststroke, 2nd (5th overall) in the 200m Individual Medley and was 1st (10th overall) in the 200m Breaststroke.

Daniel Dawson (35-39) finished 2nd (16th overall) in the 50m Backstroke, 2nd (28th overall) in the 100m Freestyle, 1st (17th overall) in the 100m Breaststroke, 1st (28th overall) in the 50m Breaststroke and 3rd (40th overall) in the 50m Freestyle.
12th/13th Preston Summer Spectacular held at the Darwen Leisure Centre.

Mia Dodman (9 years) finished 23rd in 50m Butterfly, 25th in 100m Individual Medley in a personal best time and 24th in 50m Backstroke.

Hannah McDonagh-Bond (11 years) finished 21st in 50m Butterfly, 21st in 100m Individual Medley in a personal best time, 20th in 50m Backstroke, 22nd in 50m Breaststroke and 19th in 50m Freestyle.
19th/20th Rotherham Metro A/B Graded Meet held at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.

The results were split into A grade times and B grade times. The only swimmer to achieve A grade times were Miranda Bower (14 years) and Gaby O'Toole (11 years).

Miranda finished 1st in the 50m Backstroke and the 50m Freestyle, 4th in the 100m Freestyle and the 50m Breaststroke, and 6th in the 100m Individual Medley and the 100m Breaststroke. She also achieved B grade times for two more swims where she finished 2nd in both 200m Breaststroke and 50m Butterfly.

Gaby finished 7th in the 100m Individual Medley and the 100m Freestyle. All her remaining swims had B grade times where she finished 3rd in the 50m Butterfly and 6th in the 100m Backstroke.

All the other swimmers achieved only B grade times

Danielle Baxter (12 years) finished 1st in the 50m Breaststroke, 2nd in the 50m Freestyle, 4th in the 50m Butterfly and the 100m Individual Medley, and 6th in the 100m Freestyle and the 200m Breaststroke.

Molly O'Toole (14 years) finished 4th in the 50m Butterfly and the 100m Individual Medley, 5th in the 100m Backstroke, and 6th in the 50m Backstroke.

Nicole Baxter (14 years) finished 1st in the 50m Freestyle, 3rd in the 50m Butterfly and the 100m Butterfly, 4th in the 100m Breaststroke, 5th in the 50m Backstroke, 6th in the 100m Individual Medley and the 100m Backstroke, and 9th in the 100m Freestyle.

Saskia Daly (9 years) finished 25th in the 50m Breaststroke.
19th Great Manchester Open Water Swim held at the Salford Quays

Masters swimmer Karen Driver completed the 1 mile course in 23 minutes and 12 seconds to finish 41st overall, and teacher Philip Walker who competed the course in 23 minutes and 24 seconds to finish 45th overall.

2nd 15th FINA World Masters Championships 2014

The 15th edition of FINA World Masters Championships were held in Montréal, Canada at the Parc Jean Drapeau. The opening ceremony took place at the site of the 1976 Olympics, which comprised of half an hour of music from a Quebec folkloric group, La Bottine Souriante, this was followed by an exceptional light and sound show presented by Laser Quantum. Following the light and sound show, the presentation of the flags as well as a few speeches took place. Finally, the internationally renowned Canadian impersonator, André-Philippe Gagnon took to the stage for 90 minutes.
There were over 8000 competitors from 71 countries with just over 6000 taking part in the swimming discipline alone.
4th 15th FINA World Masters Championships 2014

Philip Croxall (45-49) finishes 42nd out of 93 in the 100m Breaststroke in a time of 1:22.37 which was a seasons best.
6th 15th FINA World Masters Championships 2014

Philip Croxall (45-49) finishes 34th out of 80 in the 200m Individual Medley in a time of 2:39.69 which was his best time in the event for over three years.
6th Sailing on Lake Burwain

There were 14 children from Colne ASC took part in a morning's sailing on Lake Burwain, which was run by Lake Burwain Sailing Club. The children ranged from 5 to 15 years of age.
Despite the wet and miserable conditions, everyone enjoyed their time on the water.

8th 15th FINA World Masters Championships 2014

Philip Croxall (45-49) finishes 25th out of 58 in the 200m Breaststroke in a time of 3:00.07 which was a seasons best.
9th 15th FINA World Masters Championships 2014

Philip Croxall (45-49) finishes 20th out of 49 in the 400m Freestyle in a time of 4:55.79, which almost equalled his personal best set over 4 years ago.
23rd Great Scottish Swim 2014 was held at Loch Lomond in Scotland.

Karen Driver who was swimming in the 40 to 44 years age group competed in the 1 mile event where she finished 1st in her age group in a time of 24 minutes beating both men and women. She was the third fastest woman across all the age groups and overall was the 13th fastest swimmer out of 1306 who completed the distance.

1st Land Training Session will be starting on Saturday, 6th September in the X-Arcade Gym at the Pendle Lesiure Centre. These sessions will start at 11am and last for an hour and will be run by Philip Walker who is a qualified personal trainer.
The sessions will cost £5 per person.
8th We travelled to Ramsbottom for our latest fixture in this seasons Friendly League.

The Colne swimmers put in a tremndous effort, but it was in vain as Rasmbottom best us by 62 points to 58.
During the course of the evening there were 20 new personal bests with 12 amongst the boys and 8 for the girls.
10th We have been re-accredited for Swim21 club Essential
24th Our Swim21 club Essential accreditation was validated at the Swim21 National Panel
25th Friendly League

In the final fixture of the season, Colne beat Clitheroe to record our first victory after losing the previous seven. Right from the outset, we showed our intent by winning the first four races. Gradually over the course of the evening we stretched out the lead to eventually win by 63 points to 55.
Over the course of the evening there was a further 19 new personal bests from the boys and 16 from the girls.
Unfortunately this still means that we will have to contest the Swim-Off in November.

Karen Driver (40-44) wins the 1500m Freestyle in 19:29.01

Philip Croxall (45-49) finishes 5th in the 200m Breaststroke in 2:55.96 and 10th in the 100m Inidividual Medley in 1:12.75.
25th ASA National Masters and Senior Age Group Championships (25m) 2014

Karen Driver with help from Nicola Latty, Jessica Wooddisse and Sarah Collins in the Sub 160 Masters Team break the European Record for the Womens 160-199 800m Freestyle Team Relay by over 20 seconds to set a new time of 9:12.35.

Karen also finished 2nd in the 400m Freestyle in 4:59.95.

Philip Croxall (45-49) finishes 6th in 400m Freestyle in 4:50.43 and 6th in 100m Breaststroke in 1:19.21.
26th ASA National Masters and Senior Age Group Championships (25m) 2014

Karen Driver (40-44) finishes 8th in 200m Freestyle in 2:26.15 and is 2nd in 800m Freetyle in 10:15.04.

Philip Croxall (45-49) finishes 8th in 50m Breaststroke in 35.52 and is also 8th in 200m Individual Medley in a time of 2:41.59

15th Inter-County Masters

Philip Croxall (45+) swam for Lancashire in the Inter-County Masters event held at the John Charles Centre for Sport, Leeds. This was one of several events held around the country to determine the County Champions for 2014.
The North contest was between Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cheshire and Northumberland & Durham. Unfortunately Cumbria were unable to assemble a team for this year.
Philip swam two individual events, the 50m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle in the 45 years and over age group. He also took part in the 180 years plus 4 x 50m Freestyle and Medley Relays.
Yorkshire won the event with 235 points, with Cheshire on 189, Northumberland & Durham on 130 and Lancashire on 118. The final results will not be known until all the results have been collated from around the country.
17th Championship Gala Part One

There were three records broken on evening of Monday, 17th November. Miranda Bower set a new mark of 2:44.35 in the Open 200m Individual Medley, and Philip Walker broke two records in 11 and over 100m Breastroke and the 14 and over 50m Backstroke, setting 1:12.44 and 29.56 respectively. Also Miranda established a new mark of 1:27.06 for the 11 and over 100m Breaststroke.

Over the 24 events swum for, there were 15 different winners, with Miranda Bower win five of the events. Kian Noon and Philip Walker each won three events, with Georgia Taylforth winning two events. There was also trophy success for Alex Dickinson, Danielle Baxter, Gaby O'Toole, Isabelle Taylor, Jack Nevison, Jacob Taylforth, Maria Massey, Max Harper, Mia Dodman, Thomas Bjork and Zak Smith-Shelley as they each won an event.
20th Championship Gala Part Two

A further 4 records were broken on the evening of Thursday, 20th November. Kian Noon set two records, the first being the 8 and under 25m Breaststroke with a time of 23.69, and the second in the 8 and under 25m Frontcrawl with a time of 17.56. Miranda Bower also set records in the 14 plus 50m Frontcrawl with a time of 29.84, and the 15 and under 100m Individual Medley with a time of 1:14.94. Also the new 11 and over 100m Backstrokes events have record established. Miranda Bower set 1:13.32 for the girls event and Philip Walker set 1:02.28 for the boys events.

Over the 24 events swum for, there were 13 different winners, with Miranda Bower winning 5 events, and Philip Walker 4 events. Georgia Talyforth, Jack Nevison, James Barker and Kian Noon each won two events, as Amelia Dugdale, Danielle Baxter, Eleanor Root, Jacob Taylforth, Nicole Baxter, Olivia Taylor and Zak Smith-Shelley won an event each.

For those who entered the Spot On race, you will have to wait until the presentation on Saturday, 13th December to know who has won.
22nd Betty Petty Style Trophy

There were only seven children taking part in this years Betty Petty Style Trophy.
They were Caitlin Noon, Olivia Taylor, Mia Dodman and Maisie Rebanks for the girls and Zak Smith-Shelley, Jack Nevison and Steven Hickey for the Boys.

The winners will be announced at the Annual Presentation on Saturday, 13th December.

4th Christmas Sprint Gala

The Christmas Sprint Gala included the return of the Parent and Child relay race, last held at the Championship Gala back in 2005. The Gents race was won by Henry Manning and his Dad, whilst the Ladies race was won by Emma Wilkinson and her Mum.

There were only two records broken on the night, and these were both done by Andrew Higginbottom in the Parent & Teacher age group. He set new marks for the Butterfly (15.39) and the Frontcrawl (13.50) events.

5th Friendly League Swim-Off

The North East Lancs Friendly League Swim-Off was held at the Hyndburn Leisure Centre on Friday, 5th December.

The contest was between the two teams at the bottom of Division One, which were Colne and Clitheroe, against the two teams at the top of Division Two, which were Great Harwood and Darwen.

Right from the start of the Gala the Colne swimmers were ready for contest as we won 10 of the first 15 races to open up a quick 17 point lead.
After 20 races Colne had 67 points to Clitheroe’s 54 with Great Harwood on 43 and Darwen on 29.
Clitheroe tried in vain to catch us, but in the remaining 20 races we never finished last, which resulted in us finishing first with 128 points, having led the contest right from the first race.
Clitheroe finished 2nd on 121 points, with Great Harwood 3rd on 79 points and Darwen in 4th on 62 points.

This victory means we will keep our place in Division One for 2015, so well done to all the Colne swimmers, it was a fantastic performance.
13th Annual Presentation

The Annual Presentation was held at the Nelson Cricket Club. This was followed by a buffet and disco. Coach Andrew Croxall was the MC for the night, with musical support from DJ Ed Munday.

The Bramhill Memorial Trophy was presented to Emily Massey.
The John Dobbin Memorial Trophy was presented to Lewis Naughton who has gone from only lasting 5 minutes earlier in the year, to joining the 2nd class in the small pool.
This was followed by the presentation of the trophies won at the the Championship Galas, and this included the announcement of the winner of the Spot-On Competition. The winner this year was Hannah McDonagh-Bond who got within 0.31 seconds of her time. Eleanor Fuggle was 2nd within 0.38 of second and Danielle Baxter was 3rd with 0.42 seconds of her time.

The Two Alberts Trophy was presented to John Higginbottom for his services to the Club.

The age group winners of the Christmas Sprint Gala were given their awards including the winners of the Parent and Child races.

The Club Captains for 2015 were announced as James Barker and Nicole Baxter, with the 2015 Junior Captains being Toby Green and Hannah McDonagh-Bond.
